Mets and Devin Williams sign three-year deal

The New York Mets have reached an agreement with 31-year-old right-handed reliever Devin Williams on a three-year contract, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic. Jeff Passan of ESPN reports the deal guarantees over $50 million, while Jon Heyman specifies it as a $45 million contract with added deferrals and performance bonuses.

Williams previously enjoyed a stellar run with the Milwaukee Brewers from 2019 to 2024, showcasing exceptional pitching over six seasons. However, his performance dipped following his trade to the New York Yankees ahead of the 2025 season. This year, across 62 innings, he posted a 4.79 ERA, struck out 34.7% of batters, walked 9.7%, and recorded a 2.68 FIP.

During his tenure with the Brewers, Williams excelled with a 1.83 ERA and 2.39 FIP over 235.2 innings. He earned the National League Rookie of the Year title in 2020 after an impressive 0.33 ERA across 27 innings. Williams was also selected for the All-Star teams in 2022 and 2023, maintaining ERAs between 1.25 and 1.93 in those seasons as well as in 2024.
