Packers release rookie WR, fans speculate about Jayden Reed injury update

The Green Bay Packers have made a roster change at the wide receiver position, sparking fan speculation about potential news regarding Jayden Reed.

On Monday, the team released rookie wideout Will Sheppard. The 6-foot-3, 196-pound receiver spent the entire season on the practice squad after signing with Green Bay in July. He had been temporarily promoted to the active roster for the Thanksgiving Day game, marking his first elevation from the practice squad, but has now been cut.

Sheppard, who played college football at Vanderbilt and Colorado, had a productive season at Colorado under coach Deion Sanders, recording 48 catches for 621 yards and six touchdowns before going undrafted.

Meanwhile, Jayden Reed remains sidelined following foot and collarbone surgery. Head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Monday that Reed has not yet been cleared to return to play. The wide receiver has not appeared in a game since Week 2 and is currently on Injured Reserve, though he could still be designated to return.

Despite fan theories circulating on social media, there is no direct link between Sheppard's release and Reed's injury status. Supporters continue to wait for updates, often using Reeds jersey number, 11, in online posts.

In the interim, receivers Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, and emerging player Dontayvion Wicks will continue to be the primary targets for quarterback Jordan Love.
