Michigan Reveals Coaching Change Following Defeat by Ohio State

The University of Michigan has confirmed a significant change in its coaching staff following a tough 27-9 loss to Ohio State, a result that likely ended the Wolverines' hopes for the College Football Playoffs.

The teams disappointing performance prompted head coach Sherrone Moore to announce the dismissal of a key assistant on Wednesday. The change affects the special teams unit, which struggled during the season and particularly in the game against Ohio State.

Special Teams Coach JB Brown Released

Coach Moore issued a statement regarding the release of special teams coach JB Brown. The decision came after punter Hudson Hollenbeck delivered a poor punt, giving Ohio State advantageous field position, while preseason All-America Dominic Zvada saw a decline in his performance over the season.

"After reviewing our special teams results throughout the year, I decided a change was necessary for the programs benefit," Moore stated. "I deeply appreciate JB Browns dedication and the positive influence he has had on our players. We wish him continued success in his coaching journey."

Michigan Strengthens Recruiting Class

Amidst the coaching change, Michigan also secured several notable commitments for its 2026 recruiting class. Among the signees are quarterback Tommy Carr, receiver Travis Johnson, running back Jonathan Brown, and cornerback Jamarion Vincent. The standout acquisition is five-star EDGE rusher Carter Meadows, widely regarded as the top player at his position nationally. His addition addresses an urgent need for a stronger pass rush, highlighted by Michigans struggles against Ohio State.

While Moore has not yet matched the high-profile success of former coach Jim Harbaugh, the decision to replace Brown demonstrates his readiness to make swift adjustments when performance falls short. Restoring the special teams to a competitive level remains a top priority for the Wolverines moving forward.
