The Government of Jersey has introduced an interactive map that allows island residents to see if their rooftops are suitable for solar panels. This tool provides a useful starting point for homeowners considering solar energy installation.
Utilizing advanced 3D modelling, the map simulates the Sun's trajectory across the year. Roof areas receiving the most sunlight are considered ideal for solar panels, while shaded sections may be less effective.
Authorities emphasize that this map serves as a preliminary guide and cannot replace professional solar assessments. Certain properties are not included, such as listed buildings unlikely to receive planning approval, and structures like polytunnels or glasshouses, which are unsuitable for panel installation.
The initiative aims to support Jersey residents in evaluating solar energy options and contribute to sustainable energy adoption across the island.
