President Donald Trump stirred a heated online debate this Thanksgiving by announcing a permanent halt on immigration from third world countries while targeting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, whom he labeled as seriously reded. His statements drew criticism for being offensive and outdated, while some supporters praised his uncompromising approach.
In a post on social media, Trump greeted followers: A very Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Great American Citizens and Patriots who have been so nice in allowing our Country to be divided, disrupted, carved up, murdered, beaten, mugged, and laughed at, along with certain other foolish countries throughout the World,
Many online users condemned the language used by the president. One X user wrote: Today, the President of the United States used retarded to describe someone he does not like. Donald Trump is an embarrassment. I cannot believe there are still Christians who support this man.
Conversely, some expressed approval of Trumps stance. Another X user commented: This is a wonderful decision!! I voted for this!! Lets deal with the emergency that we already have on our hands from these countries, before we start letting people continue to pour in here Also, yes, hes right, Tim Walz is a rd and Omar IS the worst!!
Trumps Thanksgiving post on Truth Social and X criticized Minnesotas Somali population, citing the states large Somali community. He claimed Walz was inactive on the issue due to fear, incompetence or both, and disparaged Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), suggesting she probably entered the country illegally. He also described Somalia as lacking effective government, military, police, and schools.
Governor Walz responded to the attacks by referencing Trumps recent MRI, saying: Release the MRI results.
The White House stated the scan was part of a routine physical, but the results have not been publicly shared.
The remarks followed a shooting incident involving an Afghan national admitted under a 2021 refugee program, who allegedly attacked two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C. Trump used the incident to justify his call for a permanent pause on immigration from Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to recover.
The presidents comments prompted a mix of reactions online. Some called the language and rhetoric unacceptable, while others applauded his immigration stance and criticism of political opponents.
