Biden declares 'we are the United States of America' in latest slip-up at DC conference

During a speech on Friday at the International LGBTQ+ Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., former President Joe Biden made an awkward verbal slip, referring to the country as "the United States of Amerigotit." Biden, while urging elected officials, leaders, and advocates to keep pushing for equality, stumbled over his words. He stated, "We just have to get up. As long as we keep the faith and remember who the hell we are. We're the United States of Amerigotit, that's who we are! We're the U.S.!"

Biden's speech also included strong statements about standing up to defend the Constitution, particularly in light of policies from the previous Trump administration. "All of us are dismayed by the present state of the union," Biden commented. "This is no time to give up. It's time to get up. Get up and fight back. Get up. Continue to fight. And what's the fight all about? It's about protecting the Constitution. It's about protecting the Constitution."

Continuing his address, Biden accused former President Donald Trump and his supporters of trying to derail the progress for equality. "Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans are trying to distort and derail our fight for equality," he said. "They're trying to turn it into something scary, something sinister. But folks, it's really not about anything that's all that complicated. At its core, it's about making every American given the opportunity to be treated with basic decency, dignity, and respect they all deserve. That's what every single American deserves, every American." He further accused Trump of attempting to deepen national divides.

During the event, Biden was presented with the Chris Abele Impact Award, which recognized his efforts in advancing LGBTQ+ rights during his presidency. The award was named after Chris Abele, a member of the LGBTQ+ Victory Action board.
