Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen: What are They Up to Now, Over 20 Years After "Full House" Ended?

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen first captured public attention in 1987 as the shared portrayal of Michelle Tanner on the hit TV show Full House. Born in Sherman Oaks, California, the fraternal twins began their acting careers at just six months old, quickly becoming household names. Their younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, has since made her own mark in Hollywood, starring in Marvel films and upcoming projects like Eternity (2025).

Following their success on television, the sisters starred together in over 30 films, including It Takes Two, Double, Double, Toil and Trouble, and To Grandmothers House We Go. Their production company, Dualstar, was founded in 1993 by their manager Robert Thorne, with their father David Olsen as president. Ashley currently serves as the companys CEO.

Transition to Fashion

In 2005, the twins launched their fashion brand, The Row, under Dualstar. The line quickly achieved success, reaching $12 million in annual sales within its first four years and expanding to five physical locations. The brand began as a small project focused on perfecting T-shirts, tank tops, cardigans, and leggings, with Ashley emphasizing the importance of fabric and fit.

Mary-Kate and Ashley gradually stepped away from acting. Ashley's last major film was 2004's New York Minute, while Mary-Kate officially retired in 2012. Both twins moved to New York at age 18 to attend New York University, where their interest in fashion grew. Ashley later explained that they chose to pursue fashion to fully commit to something they were passionate about.

Fashion Achievements

Today, the twins continue to run The Row, with Mary-Kate as creative director and Ashley as CEO. They became the youngest designers ever inducted into the CFDA in 2009 and have won five CFDA awards. The brand has expanded to include collaborations such as Olsenboye for JCPenney and a T-shirt line at StyleMint. Mary-Kate describes the creative process as demanding yet rewarding, emphasizing the constant drive to refine designs season after season.

Personal Lives

Ashley married artist Louis Eisner on December 28, 2022, in a private ceremony. The couple welcomed their son, Otto, in 2023. Mary-Kate married French businessman Olivier Sarkozy in November 2015 but filed for divorce in May 2020. Rumors have occasionally linked Mary-Kate to NHL player Sean Avery, though they are reportedly just friends.

Current Endeavors

Mary-Kate and Ashley remain actively involved in fashion. In March 2025, they presented their latest collection in Paris, and in August 2025, they were spotted arranging clothing in their Amagansett, New York store. In addition to her work in fashion, Mary-Kate pursues equestrian competitions, achieving notable placements in the 2021 Longines Global Champions Tour in Rome.
