The White House has once again incorporated content related to pop singer Sabrina Carpenter in its social media videos about ICE deportations, following her criticism of an earlier clip that used her song Juno. The previous video, which was shared on X and has since been removed (though a version remains on TikTok), drew Carpenters ire for promoting what she called an inhumane agenda.
On Friday, the White House uploaded a new video featuring a clip from Carpenters recent Saturday Night Live appearance. In this altered segment, she stands alongside cast member Marcello Hernndez, but the audio has been modified to make it seem as if she calls Hernndez illegal instead of hot.
In the original SNL skit, Carpenter says, I think I might need to arrest someone for being too hot, to which Hernndez responds, Oh well, I turn myself in, holding his hands up as if ready for arrest. Carpenter then says, Youre under arrest. The playful moment mirrored her live performances of Juno, where she would jokingly arrest audience members with pink handcuffs.
The White Houses edited version replaces her word hot with illegal and then transitions to footage depicting ICE agents detaining people suspected of being undocumented. The video was captioned: PSA: If youre a criminal illegal, you WILL be arrested & deported.
Carpenter has not made a public statement regarding this latest video. Her representative did not immediately respond to requests for comment. This release follows the removal of the earlier video that used her song Juno, which showed a mix of protest scenes and ICE operations.
After the initial clip appeared, Carpenter reacted strongly, writing, This video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda. A White House spokesperson responded, asserting, We wont apologize for deporting dangerous criminal illegal murderers, rapists, and pedophiles from our country.
This approach echoes a similar incident last month, when the White House and Department of Homeland Security released a video of ICE operations set to Olivia Rodrigos song All-American Bitch. Rodrigo responded on Instagram, stating, Dont ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.
