Simon Cowell Sparks Old Rivalry with Ryan Seacrest: He Was Always Eager for Fame

Simon Cowell openly discussed his former American Idol colleague Ryan Seacrest in a recent interview. The Americas Got Talent judge remarked on Seacrests strong focus on his career and his pursuit of fame. I always noticed that Ryan had a very determined attitude toward being famous, Cowell shared on The Daily podcast by The New York Times, released on Saturday, November 29. It was an enormous, enormous drive to achieve celebrity.

The 66-year-old music executive also revealed that he and the 50-year-old host of Wheel of Fortune dont maintain regular contact.

During the conversation, journalist Lulu Garcia-Navarro expressed curiosity about Seacrests sustained success and asked Cowell for his thoughts. Cowell laughed and replied, Honestly, I cant fully explain it. He works hard. He was extremely ambitious. I dont really follow his career closely, so Im not sure what hes doing now. We hardly communicate anymore.

Cowell, who judged American Idol from 2002 to 2010, was known for his often sharp, occasionally scripted exchanges with Seacrest. Meanwhile, Seacrest, who has hosted all 23 seasons, previously suggested that Cowell was envious of him. In a 2010 interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said, From the very beginning, he was jealous of my career at such a young age, adding that the show had a lighter atmosphere after Cowells departure.

However, Seacrest has also described their relationship in more positive terms. That same year, he told Ellen DeGeneres they were friends and dont hold grudges, and seven years later mentioned he missed collaborating with Cowell.
