Nicholas Hoult and Daisy Edgar-Jones are set to headline a new comedy series for Disney+, titled Mosquito, created by Tony McNamara, the writer behind The Great and Poor Things. The show offers a witty, satirical look at a young couples life as their private secrets emerge amid the pressures of daily routines, all triggered by a meddlesome mosquito.

Hoult and Edgar-Jones portray Ed and Kate, a recently married couple whose polished faades gradually unravel in amusing and unexpected ways. Filming is scheduled to commence next year.

Mosquito is a Hulu original series produced in the U.K., marking a reunion between Hoult and McNamara after their collaboration on The Great, which ran for three seasons. McNamara expressed his enthusiasm, stating he is excited to create absurd comedy alongside two exceptional actors.

Eric Schrier, president of Disney Television Studios, and Angela Jain, head of content at Disney+ EMEA, praised McNamaras talent, highlighting his knack for blending dark humor with intricate storytelling. They emphasized that Mosquito represents a significant step forward for Disneys original content in the U.K.

The series is produced by 20th Television, Piggy Ate Roast Beef Productions, and Hustle & Punch. Executive producers include McNamara, Hoult, Edgar-Jones, Marian Macgowan, Tracy Underwood, and Daniel Pipski. The show was greenlit for Disney+ by Lee Mason, executive director of scripted at The Walt Disney Company EMEA, and will be available globally on Disney+ and Hulu.
