Mia Goth has shared her perspective on the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Marvels troubled and repeatedly delayed Blade reboot. Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Frankenstein star revealed that she is largely unaware of the current status of the film. She explained that she participated in early production activities after being cast, but the project eventually fell apart.
I dont know whats happening with it, Goth admitted. I think they really want to make the movie, and its clearly important to them, so they are taking their time. I just dont have any details. I dont know why its taken this long, but well see.
She elaborated on her experience with the project: The furthest it went with me they flew me to Atlanta, we did a chemistry test with Mahershala Ali, and I also did a costume and wig fitting. I was really excited about the direction it was taking. Mahershala had such a unique approach, and he was amazing. And then, unfortunately, it just unraveled.
Goth joined the project in 2023. Early reports suggested the reboot would be set in a period setting, reusing costume pieces originally designed by Ruth Carter for Ryan Cooglers 1930s-set vampire horror film Sinners. Goth was rumored to portray Lilith, a major supernatural villain in the comics, marking her potential MCU debut.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige has confirmed that the film remains in development with Ali still attached as the Daywalker, a role first popularized by Wesley Snipes in the 90s and early 2000s trilogy. Multiple versions of the reboot have been explored, including two period pieces, but Feige indicated that the focus has shifted to a modern-day setting.
Last year, Marvel removed Blade from its 2025 release calendar. Initially announced in 2019, the film has faced delays due to the pandemic, industry strikes, and multiple creative exits, including directors Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange. Feige explained that pausing the project was necessary: We didnt want to put a leather outfit on Ali and have him start killing vampires prematurely. We didnt feel confident we could make the film the way it deserved to be made.
Delroy Lindo, who was linked to the project in 2021, also noted that the production just went off the rails. Meanwhile, Ali has remained tight-lipped about the reboot. Goth previously commented that the team behind Blade is passionate about creating a high-quality film and genuinely wants it to succeed. Scriptwriting duties were reportedly assigned to Eric Pearson, known for his work on Agent Carter, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Widow.
