Jillian Lauren-Shriner seeks divorce from Weezer bassist Scott Shriner following police shooting incident

Jillian Lauren-Shriner, a best-selling true-crime writer and spouse of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has officially filed for divorce after 20 years of marriage. Court documents reveal that she cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for ending the marriage, without specifying a separation date.

In her filing, Lauren-Shriner requested to have her maiden name, Lauren, restored, and sought spousal support while asking the court to terminate any potential support obligations for Shriner. Additionally, she is requesting that Shriner cover her attorney fees.

The couple, married in November 2005, has two sons, Jovanni Starshine and Tariku Moon. Lauren-Shriner is pursuing joint legal and physical custody of the children.

This development comes months after a high-profile police incident involving Lauren-Shriner. Earlier this year, she was shot by Los Angeles police during a standoff while recovering from a full hysterectomy. The confrontation began after she reportedly fired at hit-and-run suspects near her home. Following the incident, she was taken into custody. Initially charged with attempted murder of a peace officer, the charges were later reduced to assault and negligent discharge of a firearm.

In September, the L.A. County Superior Court granted Lauren-Shriner a mental health diversion, allowing her to avoid jail time under the condition that she abstains from drugs and alcohol, participates in therapy, and refrains from owning firearms.

Lauren-Shriner is the author of several New York Times best-selling memoirs, including Everything You Ever Wanted (2010) and Some Girls: My Life in a Harem (2015), which recounts her experiences as a concubine of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei. She also released a book in 2023 about serial killer Samuel Little titled Behold the Monster: Facing America's Most Prolific Serial Killer, following her appearance in the Starz docuseries Confronting a Serial Killer.
