LOS ANGELES, Dec. 4 Two decades after Wedding Crashers first hit theaters, Jane Seymour continues to celebrate a hilarious moment in the film thanks to co-star Owen Wilson. Fathom Events will bring the comedy back to theaters on Thursday and Dec. 11.
In a recent Zoom interview, Seymour, 74, reminisced about her intimate scene with Wilson. The film features Wilson and Vince Vaughn as John and Jeremy, two bachelors who infiltrate weddings to pursue single women. Seymour portrays Kathleen, the wife of politician William Cleary (Christopher Walken), who attempts to seduce John after he and Jeremy attend her daughter Claire's (Rachel McAdams) wedding weekend.
Despite the film's R rating for language and nudity, Seymour emphasized that her scene with Wilson was filmed on a nearly empty set, and she was never fully exposed. Wilson strategically covered her during the scene, but he also delivered a spontaneous, comedic punchline. "He whispered to me, 'When we finish the scene and I leave, just say, "pervert,"' Seymour recalled. "It was completely Owens idea, unscripted and unnoticed by the director. It made the scene even better."
Even 20 years later, Seymour says fans often recognize her as Kathleen, especially when quoting lines from the film. "If they're men in their mid-30s, its definitely Wedding Crashers," she said. Fans frequently reference her characters playful nickname, Kitty Kat, and she happily delivers the line for them, regardless of age or gender.
Seymour also reflected on the competitive casting process, noting that many actresses her age auditioned for the role. Director David Dobkin, a fan of Seymour since her 1973 James Bond role in Live and Let Die, valued the unexpected humor of casting Dr. Quinn as a seductive character. "They didnt fully realize how amusing it would be to have the iconic Dr. Quinn playing Kitty Kat," she said.
Continuing to embrace romantic roles later in life, Seymour currently stars in Hallmark Channel's 12 Dates 'Til Christmas and Acorn TVs Harry Wild, portraying characters exploring love and relationships. Regarding Harry Wild, she mentioned the show filmed two endings to accommodate either a series conclusion or continuation.
Despite her busy schedule, Seymour hopes to attend one of the Fathom Events screenings of Wedding Crashers in December. "It will be exciting to watch the audience react, especially those seeing it for the first time," she said, noting the unique experience of sharing a classic comedy with theatergoers.
