Frankie Grande Admits Hiring Sober Coach Due to Struggle with Staying Clean for One Day

Frankie Grande revealed that maintaining sobriety was initially a major challenge for him, and he experienced several relapses along the way. The reality TV personality discussed his journey on the Untraditionally Lala podcast with Lala Kent, explaining that he enlisted the help of a sober coach to keep himself away from alcohol.

Grande, 42, reflected on the early days of his sobriety, admitting that even a single negative comment online could trigger a relapse. I got sober with a sober coach two years before I went on Big Brother in 2014, he shared. My therapist wanted to see if I could manage ninety days clean, and I thought it would be easybut I couldnt even make it through one day.

To ensure he stayed sober, Grande hired a coach who stared at me for ninety days, he said, paying her thousands of dollars to keep him away from drinking. After completing the program, he attempted to reintroduce alcohol in small amounts, which quickly escalated. I started with one drink a month, then two, then one a week, one a night, and eventually every night again, he admitted.

Recognizing his struggle, Grande rehired the sober coach before entering the Big Brother house. I knew that if I had to detox on live television, it would be a disaster, he said. The strategy worked, and he remained sober during the show, but relapsed shortly after the after-party when a minor online comment triggered a drink, quickly spiraling back into old habits.

Reflecting on the experience, Grande said he learned to avoid online comments and recognized the difficulty of staying sober in the high-pressure environment of reality TV. Its a demanding space for your mind, body, and humanity, especially if youre trying to stay sober, he explained.
