Recent reports indicate that the 67-year-old broadcaster is interested in re-entering the media world in some form. Still, sources warn that his return could face significant obstacles, as the media landscape has shifted dramatically since his departure.

Lauer Faces Challenges Adapting to Todays Media

Entertainment journalist Rob Shuter notes that Lauer has expressed interest in returning to media but prefers a traditional approach. According to Shuter, Lauer wants to step into a style of media that no longer exists, avoiding platforms like TikTok, podcasts, YouTube collaborations, and reality TV appearances.

Shuter writes on his Naughty But Nice Substack that Lauer shows little willingness to engage with the strategies required for a contemporary media career. Traditional television opportunities are scarce, and cable news has diminished, reducing the relevance of roles similar to the one Lauer held a decade ago.

Insiders Describe Lauer as Unyielding

An anonymous source described Lauer as not scrappy, adding that he seeks a platform without the effort modern media demands. Another source shared with People that since leaving TV, Lauer has spent time in the Hamptons and continues his relationship with Shamin Abas. Despite this, he reportedly remains frustrated with how he was treated by the industry and former associates.
