Even stranger than Hawkins' supernatural creatures are the unexpected on-set goofs being discovered by viewers. Sharp-eyed fans caught a comical editing mistake in the second episode of Stranger Things season five, where Will (Noah Schnapp) and Robin (Maya Hawke) embark on a mission to locate the exact spot of Wills last vision from Vecna.
In a clip shared on TikTok on December 4, Will and Robin are seen walking through a dark neighborhood park, flashlights in hand. As they near the location where Will had his vision, bright X marks made of orange and blue tape are visible on the ground, likely intended as positioning guides for the actors.
The TikTok video, captioned with a crying emoji, read: Oh no not the orange and blue electrical tape scene markers. Rather than being upset, fans found the oversight amusing. One user noted, I actually like catching little details like this to remind myself its a show, while another joked, I just know someone out there is making an entire theory about those pieces of spike tape.
Some viewers pointed out that this minor mishap was nothing compared to other famous TV blunders, such as the accidental appearance of a Starbucks cup in Game of Thrones season eight. At least its not like when Game of Thrones left a Starbucks cup on the table, one comment read.
Production errors arent uncommon on the series. Earlier this week, fans noticed another continuity mistake in season five. During a flashback in Volume One, Will and his older brother Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) are building Castle Byers in the sunlight. However, this memory contradicts Jonathans recollection from season one, where the scenes timing and weather were different.
In the 2016 episode, Jonathan recalls: Do you remember the day Dad left? We stayed up all night, building Castle Byers, just the way you drew it. And it took so long, because you were so bad at hammering. Youd miss the nail every time. And then it started raining, but we stayed out there anyway. We were both sick for like a week after that. But we just had to finish it, didnt we? We just had to.
Fans continue to uncover fascinating behind-the-scenes details about the show, from casting choices to production changes. For example, the Duffer brothers initially envisioned filming on Long Island, and Elevens iconic haircut was a major moment for actress Millie Bobby Brown. Other actors, including Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo, inspired significant adjustments to their characters after auditions.
Throughout the series, small mistakes, alternate storylines, and casting insights highlight how much effort goes into creating the world of Hawkinsand how fans delight in spotting both the magical and the amusing imperfections.
