British pop sensation Dua Lipa began the final countdown of her year-long Radical Optimism Tour on Monday, December 1, with the first of three shows in Mexico City. She added a special touch by performing a rendition of the legendary song Bsame Mucho, originally composed by Mexican pianist Consuelito Velzquez.
The performance, inspired by the 1997 version by Mexican icon Luis Miguel, fulfilled Lipas commitment to honor the local music of each country she visits during her tour. Fans at the GNP Seguros Stadiuman audience of approximately 65,000 according to OCESAwere delighted by the unexpected choice after days of speculation about which Mexican classic she would sing.
Introducing the song in flawless Spanish, Lipa said, Today I want to pay tribute to a great Mexican composer, Consuelo Velzquez, whose song is cherished by people all over the world. I love this song because the story goes that she had never been kissed when she wrote it, and I believe songwriters write their dreams to make them come true.
Bsame Mucho is among the most covered songs globally, with renditions by artists including Luis Miguel, Andrea Bocelli, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Dalida, and The Beatles. The performance adds to a growing list of Latin American songs Lipa has honored during her tour, such as Enrique Iglesias Hroe in Madrid, Soda Stereos De Msica Ligera in Argentina, Mon Lafertes Tu Falta de Querer and La Leys El Duelo in Chile, Sergio Mendes Magalenha in Brazil, Cariito with Mauricio Mesones in Peru, and Shakiras Antologa in Colombia.
During the Mexico City show, Lipa spoke several phrases in Spanish, expressing gratitude for the audiences warmth and saying they made her feel at home.
She added, Ive been dreaming about this night since I started the tour, and how it would feel to be back here. These concerts are so exciting for me because they are the final three of my Radical Optimism tour. I feel incredibly grateful and cant stop thinking about all the amazing memories Ive made this year. Being here with you tonight is the icing on the cake, the only way I wanted to close this tour.
The tour concludes with two remaining performances on December 2 and December 5 in Mexico City.
