Dave Coulier reveals new cancer diagnosis after previously overcoming non-Hodgkin lymphoma: 'A sudden blow'

Following his victory over an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, actor Dave Coulier is confronting another cancer diagnosis. In a conversation with Today on Tuesday, the Full House star disclosed that in October he was diagnosed with early-stage P16 carcinoma, also known as oropharyngeal tongue cancer, which is entirely separate from his previous illness.

"During a routine PET scan, something unusual appeared," Coulier explained. "It was confirmed that I have P16 squamous carcinoma at the base of my tongue. When I asked the doctors if it was connected to the lymphoma, they said it was completely unrelated."

Coulier, best known for playing Uncle Joey on the ABC sitcom and its Netflix revival Fuller House, had revealed his stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis last November. Five months later, he announced on April 1 that he was cancer-free.

Now 66, he is undergoing a new course of radiation therapy, consisting of 35 treatments planned to continue until the end of the year. "Going through chemotherapy and feeling relief, then receiving another cancer diagnosisits a real shock to the system," Coulier admitted.

Despite the setback, his outlook is positive. He shared with Today cohost Craig Melvin, "This cancer has over a 90% curability rate. Early detection has truly saved my life, both times. I urge everyone to stay on top of their checkups, colonoscopies, breast exams, and prostate examsthey can be lifesaving."

Coulier also reflected on the emotional impact of facing two cancer diagnoses in such a short span. "Its psychologically and emotionally exhausting, especially for my wife, Melissa. Seeing her affected is the hardest part for me," he said.

Still, he remains cautiously hopeful. "Im determined to get through this," Coulier stated. "The silver lining is that my previous cancer led to early detection of this one. Without that PET scan, this carcinoma could have advanced severely."
