Chris Henry Jr. addresses his commitment status with Ohio State

Ohio State may need to be patient regarding the status of 5-star wide receiver Chris Henry Jr., widely regarded as the crown jewel of the 2026 recruiting class. Henry, the top receiver in the 2026 cycle, had been committed to Ohio State since June and had declined numerous high-profile offers, signaling a strong intent to remain through the early signing period.

However, the situation shifted when Ohio State's Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers coach, Brian Hartline, known for developing several 5-star prospects, was announced as the new head coach at USF. Initial reports suggested Henry would maintain his commitment to Ohio State, but the program never released an official statement.

Later, Henry clarified his position directly on social media. In a post on X, he explained that he has not signed and is taking extra time to consider his options due to the coaching changes, emphasizing the importance of making the right decision for his future.

"I have not signed yet. Still trying to weigh my options because of coaching changes I just want to make the right decision for my future."

The timing follows news that his Mater Dei teammate, Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, switched his commitment from Ohio State to USC shortly after Hartline's departure. This development suggests that Ohio State head coach Ryan Day may still need to make a case to retain Henry.

Ohio State's history of developing top-tier wide receivers remains strong, and Hartline's leadership had only strengthened that reputation. Given these changes, Henrys decision to take additional time is understandable as he evaluates the best fit for his collegiate career.

As of now, Henrys commitment status remains uncertain, and further updates are expected as he continues his decision-making process.
