Adrien Brody disclosed that he has not committed to any new acting projects since winning the Best Actor Academy Award last March for his performance in The Brutalist. Despite previous reports suggesting he was in early discussions with Damien Chazelle for a role in Evel Knievel on Tour, Brody confirmed he has remained selective.
Speaking at Saudi Arabias Red Sea Film Festival, the two-time Oscar winner explained, I havent taken a film since The Brutalist. Its not due to a lack of opportunities, but nothing has felt exactly right. I enjoy working, collaborating, and immersing myself fully in the creative process. I thrive on problem-solving and the intense focus that comes with a project.
Addressing a young audience of aspiring actors and filmmakers, Brody shared advice from his four-decade-long career: Early in your career, you should explore anything that allows you to grow, regardless of financial reward. Every professional experience, whether a success or challenge, strengthens you for future obstacles.
Reflecting on his own journey, Brody noted that after winning his first Best Actor Oscar for The Pianist in 2003, he became more selective in choosing roles. I felt I had less to prove and wanted to take work that genuinely interested me, respecting the trajectory of my career, he said.
Brody has spent recent weeks in the Gulf region, attending events such as the Fashion Trust Arabia fundraiser in Doha and participating in the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah.
Discussing The Brutalist, Brody described the intense shooting experience: It was a three-and-a-half-hour epic shot on VistaVision, a camera system rarely used since the 60s. We filmed in just 23 days, which was extremely demandingno rest and tight turnarounds. Working six days a week for five weeks left us completely drained.
He also shared insights into his personal approach during filming: I tend to be very self-contained. I dont socialize with cast or crew on heavy days. Sometimes I skip lunch to maintain energy. Over my adult life, Ive developed techniques to protect myself emotionally so I can deliver my best performance. You have to find ways to overcome distractions and challenges on set.
