WASHINGTON, Dec 6 U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to create specialized task forces within the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) aimed at ensuring the security of food supply chains. The move is intended to tackle potential risks stemming from price manipulation and anti-competitive practices, according to a statement from the White House.
In the order, Trump emphasized, "My Administration will take action to investigate whether anti-competitive conduct, particularly by companies with foreign ownership, is driving up costs for American consumers and posing a national security risk to our food supply networks."
The order empowers the Attorney General and the FTC Chairman to pursue enforcement measures and suggest new regulatory frameworks if they identify anti-competitive behavior during their inquiries.
