IO Interactive CEO Unofficially Confirms Hitman 4, With Co-op Mode Coming First

During a recent interview, IO Interactives CEO Hakan Abrak confirmed that the studio remains committed to the Hitman franchise, assuring fans that a new installment will be developed. However, he emphasized that the upcoming focus will be on the games co-op features before any new mainline release.

Hitman: World of Assassination continues to capture attention with high-profile content. Previously, IO Interactive released a mission allowing players to step into Agent 47s shoes to confront Le Chiffre, with Mads Mikkelsen reprising his Casino Royale role. More recently, a unique DLC mission features Eminem hiring Agent 47 to eliminate his alter ego, Slim Shady.

In the interview with Variety, Abrak stated, Of course there will be more Hitman, adding that the next big announcement will focus on co-op gameplay. He explained, Co-op is a really exciting expansion for the universe, introducing new mechanics and interactions in World of Assassination. After that, well shift our attention to the next mainline Hitman game. This confirms that co-op missions are prioritized before discussions about Hitman 4 begin.

IO Interactive pays particular attention to integrating celebrity appearances authentically. Abrak noted that working with Eminem to differentiate his real persona from Slim Shady was seamless, praising how naturally his dual identity fits the Hitman universe. On selecting special targets, he explained that the process involves a mix of availability and creative fit, aiming for surprises that enhance the storyline and game experience.

The Eminem vs. Slim Shady mission is currently available as free DLC for World of Assassination, allowing players to experience this exclusive content immediately.
